If you Google "boondoggle definition," you get a mix of contradicting results that add up to a randomly pleasing whole.
Google Dictionary gives us the following:
noun noun: boondoggle; plural noun: boondoggles 1. work or activity that is wasteful or pointless but gives the appearance of having value. "writing off the cold fusion phenomenon as a boondoggle best buried in literature"
Merriam-Webster gets vaguely insulting for someone who just named their (admittedly free) website after the phenomenon:
- a wasteful or impractical project or activity often involving graft // The project is a complete boondoggle—over budget, behind schedule, and unnecessary.
Urban Dictionary gets a little closer to our strange amalgamation that is Boondogglers Anonymous:
boondoggle 1.- An unnecessary or wasteful project or activity. 2.- A hopeless Case 3.- Some sort of deformed toy made from parts of other different toys "Holy shit of Jesus Martha, stop boondoggleing and [do] something productive" "You're such a Boondoggle, all you like to do is drink urine while staring at the dead corpse of your grandma" "Is that a Boondoggle you've got there, It's pretty badass, it must have costed a fortune"
So what is a boondoggle? And what, pray tell, is a boondoggler?
Well, if you're here, you're already a boondoggler - a time-waster, a let's-see-what-happens-er, some sort of deformed Millennial made from parts of things you've read and consumed on the Internet.
Boondogglers Anonymous is a space to waste time. Half writing warm-up, half SEO campaign, and about 15% complete bogus, this is a place to come for dumb quotes, dumber jokes, and the kind of time-wasting that doesn't feel wasteful.
So come on in, sit a while, read a few articles, and then holy shit of Jesus Martha — stop boondoggling and go do something productive.
